Silently waiting for acceptance from those peering eyes. Shades open and close as I pass by or enter or exit my home. Constantly on display for all to see as they pass their silent judgement. Friendless I remained for the time I chose to stay in a place I knew I would never be accepted. I hoped each day for open hearts knowing I had done nothing that needed forgiveness. It’s quite possible being another color was the invisible spear that would continuously pierce my heart with each judgment meant to take me down slowly. I choose to look past all that and see only those that will not judge, to see only those who love with their whole hearts and see me for me and not the skin that shields me. Now heads nod, smiles appear, hands wave and even hugs are exchanged. That’s the behavior of a true neighbor.
