All that I remember stares down at me as I attempt to close my eyes and rest. I’m chased to every corner of any room I try to escape to.

I tell myself that none of this matters, the past is the past. In that moment a warmth fills the room, but there is no love or kindness to follow. Every traumatic memory flashes before me as if I’m in an old movie theatre.

I scream out in a sweaty panic. No one hears or comes to save me as my fear holds me hostage.

I remember myself as a child at the Old St Paul’s Church kneeling before Christ praying for the forgiveness of my sins. The sun shines through the stained glass windows hitting my cheek. This is what wakes me and releases me from the fear that holds me hostage until next I try to rest my head and sleep.
