This morning I woke to the words of my husband against my ear

He said, I love you honey, you are my everything

He kisses me while holding me tight

In turn I responded, I love you more, you are my everything

After his morning routine as I ready our young for school, he leans in for the second kiss of the day

Again the words I love your fall from his lips against my ear

In turn again I say I love you

He watches me with such love twinkling in his eyes

My hearts racing just knowing he’s near

We drop the kids at school after a perfectly smooth morning

Free of drama with just a little racquet

What a success

In unison, we wish the girls a wonderful day

Then we are on our way

He takes me for breakfast

We walk inside hand in hand, each with a smile upon our faces

I enjoy a belgium waffle while he enjoys pancakes

Upon completion I say “thank you my love” and he flashes me a smile

As we return to the car I think to myself “oh what a glorious day”

We drive onto target to buy clothes for the girls, together we choose their clothes

Amazed at how our thoughts and tastes are the same

We finish our task and head home for the day

Both of us grateful for the success of the day

For the time spent  together, just the way we wanted

For remembering how it use to be and for

Showing each other just how important we are to one another

and to those around us

Now he’s elsewhere and I almost feel lost without him by my side

Not because I don’t know what to do or need his direction

It’s just that my hearts yearns for his love when he’s not near

The phone rings and his voice brings me immediate comfort

He promises to return soon, he’s almost on his way

How sweet it is to be loved by him

Thank you my love for making things the way they use to be

This was really…for want of a better word, sweet. Not too sweet. Not sickly sweet like some love poems. This is honest, and touching, and heartfelt. You have a subtle poetic technique which is very colloquial, and almost a little sing-song.

My favourite lines were, “We finish our task and head home for the day

Both of us grateful for the success of the day.”

There was something gripping about the repetition of “they day.” Maybe the rhythm. I’m not sure. I’ll have to read it again tomorrow, when I’m a little more awake.

Really enjoyed this little poem of yours.
