When the curtain closes
When the TV screen turns to snow
When the theatre clears
When the drive-in has emptied
I’ll still be there when they’re gone
They bring life
They bring laughter
They bring sorrow
And still tomorrow
They’ll leave once the clock strikes at the top of the hour
But
I’ll still be there when they’re gone
You need not wonder
You need not cry
You need not tell them why
That I’m the only one that seems to care
Whether you come or whether you go
But no one else seems to know
That you, yourself are already gone
