I love the quiet ones
who slip into your life
as gently as a breath
cats who never shed,
yet leave their presence everywhere:
in the warm indent on a pillow,
in the hush of a room
that suddenly feels like home.

Two of them came to me at a year old,
already past kittenhood,
already themselves🐈🐈‍⬛
and still they trusted me
with twenty-two years
of their fragile, miraculous lives.
I carried them through seasons
that reshaped me too,
and when they left,
the world exhaled
and forgot to draw breath again.

My old boy now is eighteen🐈‍⬛
October gifted him another year
of soft steps and steady eyes.
Every morning with him
feels like a prayer
wrapped in fur,
a reminder that love can age
without ever fading.

I love the wild-hearted ones too🐺
the huskies with winter in their blood,
their storm-bright eyes
and restless joy
that can’t be contained.

And the fish,🐟
little lamps of living color,
gliding like slow-moving blessings
through water that glows around them.

Then there are the horses🐴
oh, the horses🐎
galloping freely through open grass,
manes pouring behind them
like ribbons of wind.
Their eyes hold depths
that feel like the ocean,
the kind of calm that pulls you in,
the kind of mystery
you don’t want to solve.

And above it all,
the birds🕊️
every color, every size🪿
flying with a grace
that seems borrowed from heaven,
unburdened, unafraid,
writing freedom across the sky
with every effortless wingbeat.

These are my favorites,
the beings who stay with me,
who teach me tenderness,
wildness,
devotion,
and peace✌🏽
all the ways a heart can stretch
and still have room for more.
