Write a sonnet or rewrite one of Shakespeare’s or Petrarch’s. (Sonnets are 14 lines long and are traditionally written in iambic pentameter. But feel free to bend the rules a little; it’s your poem!)
I dream a dawn where no one walks alone,
Where hunger fades and hatred holds no sway.
Where hearts, not borders, shape the world we own,
And peace, not power, rules the light of day.
Where every child may rise with boundless hope,
And learning flows like rivers through the land.
Where justice climbs the steepest moral slope,
With steady steps and ever-open hand.
Let voices rise, not just the strong or few,
But all who seek a life that’s fair and free.
Let hands unite to build a world anew,
With roots of love beneath the tallest tree.
Though dreams are fragile, still they guide us true—
The world we seek begins with me and you.
