Curious was I to know what building stands taller than any other in the world. Who dares to travel through its doors❓ You have to be brave and resilient to choose a faceless fate. So many of us myself included traumatized by the events of September 11, 2001. So many people entered the twin towers on that unforgettable day, oblivious to their impending demise. Why should such large buildings be desired or allowed to be built? There is no guarantee to the preservation of life. While intriguingly mystifying, buildings like this one have a permanent target on their back. Any individual or group can choose to bring a reign of terror down on unsuspecting innocents.

The Tallest Building in the World: A Controversial Symbol
I wasn’t in New York during the attack—I was stationed at a government facility at the time. Many of our buildings were considered potential targets, and I happened to be working alone that morning on the 13th floor, tucked away in a remote lab.
Suddenly, a jet appeared outside the window. I had no idea what was going on. I was three months pregnant, classified as high-risk, and when the phone lines went dead, I couldn’t reach my family. They knew where I worked and were beside themselves with worry, especially given my condition.
As my colleagues started arriving, they turned on the TVs and radios—and that’s when we all learned what had happened to the Twin Towers. We were immediately placed on lockdown. Eventually, we were told to go home and be with our loved ones.
But public transportation had been shut down, and since I don’t drive, I had no choice but to walk—all the way from Boston. You can only imagine the relief I felt when I finally opened my front door and was able to hug my husband and children.
I’d really love to hear your story—where you were that day and how you feel about skyscrapers now.
