Share what you know about the year you were born.

My mother spent most of her days on her feet. Making others happy, serving their meals, mornings, afternoons, and into the evening. With already a daughter and a son at home dependent on their no-good father, she continues to push herself to the limit. Someone had to work every day to pay the bills and feed the family and she was the one chosen for the job.

One morning as she woke up to ready herself for work she went to use the bathroom. I dont want to be gross here but she thought she was going to have a bowel movement but to her surprise out slid a baby girl instead. That baby was me. I didn’t look too good so an ambulance came to take me and my mother to the hospital. Mom was fine almost as if nothing had happened. I on the other hand spent the first six months of my life in the hospital just trying to survive. My mom stopped by each day after work to make sure I was still hanging on.

I remember my mom telling me stories of taking me for walks in the park and people wanting to curiously take a peek and she warned them off stating that I wasn’t well. She didn’t want people calling me ugly because I was born three months premature, quite small, and not the cutest baby on the block. But that was all well and good. The important thing was that I was alive.

Barely time to recuperate from birthing me, one morning leaving for work, my mother said my sister arrived out in the hallway. The only saving grace was that she was full-term and didn’t have to spend all the extra time in the hospital. All I know is that my mom had to be an extremely strong woman birthing two children in the same year while continuing to work and maintain a household. All when I came into the world.
