Describe a man who has positively impacted your life.

There was a time when I thought wanted to be a journalist and that was only because I took journalism in high school with Barry Shuman. This man still leaves an impression on my life today. He taught me to understand the words I wrote, to research, understand, live, and breathe each one of them.

Every story we read, we had to read often more than once so we could factually retell its story. There wasn’t a class that left me feeling empty. There was always something to take away from each lesson.

Barry Shuman is not the reason I didn’t end up being a journalist. I became a single mom early in my life and had to use the skills I had at the time to move my life forward.

Barry Shuman was one of a handful of teachers I wished that my children had the good fortune to have as their teacher, but in six children it never came to be.

Thank you, Barry Shuman, for making a positive impact on my life at a time when it was much needed.
