35 Years ago

In my mothers living room

Me, my brother and my sisters

Were dancing barefoot

On my mothers baby blue, hairy, plush rug

On this one rainy Saturday afternoon we decided to “dance the night away”

We played one record after another

Until we came upon K.C. & The Sunshine Band’s

(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty

Suddenly, we heard someone running down the hall

Imagine all of our surprise

When that someone turned out to be our

One and only mother

And you’ll never believe what she started to do

She decided to (shake, shake, shake), shake her booty

We couldn’t believe what we were seeing

But suddenly

We were all doing it

That was some of the best three minutes and 3 seconds we ever had

We still remember it just like it was yesterday
