Their pain spans generations
Their identities lay tattered and torn
Defined by those who are unknowing of their true history
Forced to be what society expects and demands
Little acceptance and understanding
Still struggling to prove their worth
Compromising all they have come to be proud of
They’re mocked and disgraced on-screen
By those attempting to tell their story
Wanting nothing but fame and glory
Leaving fresh scars on their wounded hearts
Will there ever be respect for their stories
This is why they cry for understanding
