Deep Beneath My Skin©

This skin I’m in hides the truth
About where I’ve been
What I’ve seen
And what I’ve done
You’ll never know any of it unless I choose to let you in
This skin I’m in only protects my vitals within
But it cannot protect me from all that I feel
All that’s been done
Nor all that I’ve seen
The scars I carry are too deep to describe
I can only hide the emotional ones
But the visual ones
I’m sure you see
Do you wonder what I’ve seen
and where I’ve been
I wouldn’t wish my past on any friend
My only hope now
Is for someone to love
That can rescue me from my haunting memories
hidden deep beneath my skin
