I was just two
But those around me
Feared the darkness that fell before them
Scattering about light frightened mice
Attempting to seek shelter
Hysteria mounting
As the trains come to a screeching halt
And riders and conductors forced to walk the tracks
Cars stand paralyzed unable to move
Back up generators and candles
Light the rest of their way
As the night gets darker
Minutes turns into hours
Night turns into day
No one can wait
For this feeling to go away
Then, I happily sat back without a care in the world
knowing nothing of what’s happening around me
Too young to be affected by the random chaos
That will end just as quickly as it started but not quick enough for some
How glad I was to be the age of two and too young to care
I’m happy that 50 years later there is a memory to look back on
Knowing that I was there but unaffected by all that was and is now
Just a distant flash in the minds of others
