The Streets I walk are all the same

Worn and torn by all who travel them

They appear so inviting

Filled with trees and flowers beside them

Home to countless animals both near and far

Streets with houses where some have died

At the hands of criminals whom we despise

Rendering us fearful of what comes next

No longer trusting the steps we take

To keep our families safe

Our children no longer able to walk freely

Down the streets they grew up on

Cars, doors and windows stay locked

People are no longer openly trusting

Fearing each stranger that passes them by

How I wish for the days gone by

Where all loved thy neighbor

Like family

And violence was rarely heard of

Nor barely seen

Crime was just a word we knew

But never had to experience

How I wish we could take back our streets
