I cry
When I know that no one is watching
Knowing of those who pass judgement
Upon the mothers and the fathers
Who wake each day
Dreading the moment their kids wake to no food on the table
They dread the look in their children’s eyes when they ask what’s for breakfast
and they’re left without answers
They dread the knock on the front door from
The landlord looking for unpaid rent
From the utility company wanting to turn off the lights and the gas
I cry for the brokenhearted mother who’s child died from malnutrition
For the father who drove his car off the bridge hoping insurance would cover his failures
I cry for the imbalance of the world
